A ball gown in ivory silk satin with a corset of open-lattice straw across the front, set with pearls and smoky stones in gold. The skirt is box-pleated and sweeps to a train. The largest piece the house makes.

Paja toquilla is the straw of the Ecuadorian coast, split from the young leaves of the toquilla palm and woven by hand in the towns around Montecristi. The same fibre has been worked there for generations into the finest hats in the world. GALAP sets it into cloth. Each panel is woven to the shape of the garment it will join, then cut and sewn in our New York atelier. No two weaves are identical; the variation is the signature of the hand.
