Panama Hat — Natural Fine Weave, Black Band

Woven by hand. Never by machine.

This hat begins as a palm. Along Ecuador's coast, the toquilla grows wild in the shade of the forest. Its shoots are cut by hand, split into fibres finer than thread, boiled, and dried in the sun.

What happens next hasn't changed in generations. A weaver in Montecristi sets a small rosette at the crown and works outward in a spiral, one strand crossing another, thousands of times over. There is no loom, no machine that can do this, and no shortcut that gives the same result.

Look at the top of the crown. The weave should radiate in perfect circles from a single point. That spiral is the weaver's signature, and it's how you know where a hat was born.
