The straw is dyed royal blue and worked over a silver underlay, set into one side of the bodice with pleated crepe on the other. Spaghetti straps and a sweetheart neckline. A belt of silver lace closes with a hook.

Paja toquilla is the straw of the Ecuadorian coast, split from the young leaves of the toquilla palm and woven by hand in the towns around Montecristi. The same fibre has been worked there for generations into the finest hats in the world. GALAP sets it into cloth. Each panel is woven to the shape of the garment it will join, then cut and sewn in our New York atelier. No two weaves are identical; the variation is the signature of the hand.

Heavy crepe. Hand-woven toquilla straw, dyed. Silver metallic underlay. Blue stones in crystal settings.
